Wolf Robert Stratmann is a bassist and composer from Bielefeld, Germany. He studied Audio Design and Music Production at the SRH School of Popular Arts (hdpk) in Berlin and later jazz at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and The New School in New York City, where he studied among others with Buster Williams, Kevin Scott, Billy Martin, Steve Cardenas, Marko Djordjevic and Mari Rubio.
Wolf leads original projects, including collaborations with long-time creative partner Sujae Jung, with recent recordings released independently and on the New York-based label "29th Street Editions". Nowadays his work focuses on Contemporary Jazz and New Music.
Recent collaborations include among others renowned artists such as Steve Cardenas, Marko Djordjevic, Axel Fischbacher, Ned Rothenberg, and Satoshi Takeishi. Wolf was a recipient of the 2024 Living Jazz "Jazz Camp West" scholarship and recently completed his Master’s at The New School, where he received the Dean’s Award, recognizing him for his outstanding academic achievements.

Wolf Robert Stratmann is a young bassist from Bielefeld, Germany, who studied Audio Design and Music Production at the SRH School of Popular Arts (hdpk) in Berlin. During this time he collaborated with various projects and artists of pop and jazz music (incl. CATT, VΛLUE, Marie Feiler, Die Lochis, Alice Merton, Big Band Kameleon, Musication Big Band (UdK), Berliner Jugend Jazz Orchester, Jugendclub der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Mirko Firzlaff, Ya Puso La Marrana, Zustra, M!co).
After releasing his own music with the Aeroglyph Collective and a preparatory year at the Musikschule City West Berlin, he decided to continue his musical journey in Jazz in the Netherlands at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. There he worked primarily on his contemporary jazz project, the "SWL trio", with which he regularly performed his original music in the Netherlands and in Germany, including a feature with the German guitarist Axel Fischbacher. Furthermore, he was active in a working band project called “The Jinjies”, a project that focused on traditional Jazz repertoire, American Songbook Classics and renown Latin pieces. On the side he started aswell to produce lofi inspired music under the alias "Pineapplehead". During the end of his studies Wolf Robert had as well the opportunity to share the stage with Italian Tenor Saxophonist Claudio Jr. De Rosa and the German Drummer Felix Schlarmann and recorded for the Italian Composer and Guitarist Stefano Gullo.
In August 2023 and after successfully finishing his Bachelor studies and receiving a scholarship, he moved to New York City US to study at The New School the Master Program Jazz Performer/Composer under Buster Williams and Kevin Scott. Shortly after his arrival in NYC he continued to work on his work as a project leader with his long time collaborator and life partner Sujae Jung and newly made friend, Anders Bak Julsgaard, from Denmark. In December of the same year they recorded new Originals at GSI Studios in Manhattan in form of a studio concert. This live recording has been recently released on the New York City based label "29th Street Editions", a label founded by Kevin Scott and Austin White. Moreover he independently released the Jung Stratmann Duo E.P.s "Bird of Luck"(2024) and "Tree Huggers", which contain further selections of intimate recordings of his Original music. Recent collaborations include among others renown artist such as Steve Cardenas, Marko Djordjevic, Ned Rothenberg and Satoshi Takeishi. He recently toured various cities in Europe, including Germany, the Netherlands, and France, and performed at local and well-known venues with renowned German guitarist Axel Fischbacher. Wolf successfully concluded his Master Studies at The New School in May 2025 and was awarded with the Dean's Award, recognizing him for his outstanding academic achievements.
Since 2024, a particular focus has been placed on his new "Project Natural Sound", a New Music / Experimental Music Project, that interweaves Field-recordings and Natural Soundscapes with Quartet Improvisation, so far featuring Freja Høiland Høj on voice, Sujae Jung on piano and synthesizer and Paul Sakai on drums and percussion. Additionally Wolf pursues working on an an entirely new project since 2025, called Airplane Ears, that features Sujae Jung on synthesizer, Wolf on electric bass, and Dino Kim on drums. Together they explore the aesthetics of Drum and Bass, EDM, Experimental Music, Rock, Funk & Soul through instant composition and rough improvisation.
Among others Wolf took regular or recurring bass lessons from Björn Werra, Simon Pauli, Paul Kleber, Horst Nonnenmacher, Roberto Badoglio, Mark Haanstra, Gulli Guðmundsson, Roelof Meijer, Evan Marien, Petros Klampanis, Tim Lefebvre, Marcus McLaurine, Steve Cardenas, Marko Djordjevic, Billy Martin and Mari Rubio.
Furthermore, he was a scholarship recipient for the 2024 Living Jazz "Jazz Camp West" in California 2024. Besides performing and composing music, Wolf has also been active as a teacher for bass guitar at the Drumtrainer Junior Music School Berlin form 2017 to 2019, as well as a band coach at Teeny Musiktreff Wedding Berlin in 2017.
